2009 Alumni Banquet
57th ANNUAL ALUMNI BANQUET
May 16, 2009
by Moo Ingram
Kewanna High School alumni, their spouses and guests, gathered Saturday evening, May 16, at the Kewanna-Union Township Fire Station for the 57th annual Alumni Banquet. Steve Rude, class of 1959 and alumni association vice president, offered the invocation prior to the dinner served by the Kewanna Kafe and staff.
The master of ceremonies for the evening's festivities was Bob Clyde, class of 1970, the association president. Marcia Skinner Link, class of 1970, read the minutes of last year's annual gathering and Bob Clyde gave the treasurer's report. Steve Rude read the names of the nineteen alumni and one former teacher who have passed away since last year's banquet and a moment of silence was held in their memory.
The class of 1959, which graduated 50 years ago, was given special recognition. Sixteen class members were in attendance. It was acknowledged that one class member, Jeanine Brown McKenzie, is deceased. She passed away in 1990. Barry Worl, vice president of the class of 1959, introduced each of his classmates, who offered comments about their lives since graduating from KHS. They also shared a special school days memory. It was noted that 18 of the 25 graduates attended all twelve years together at Kewanna.
The association president called the roll of classes and each alumnus stood to introduce his or herself and guest. They also shared a memory of their school days. The oldest alumni present were from the class of 1935. They were Helen Kissinger Miller, Kewanna and Donald Metzger, Rochester. Neil Grostefon, class of 1936, of Port Richey, FL, was in attendance for the first time since graduation. Two former teachers, Wilma Woolever Hasman, Newaygo, MI and Ronald Miller, Ft Lauderdale, FL  were recognized.
Beverly Browning Baldwin was elected to fill the office of association treasurer, filling a vacancy left by the death of George Hoover, class of 1955, who had served in that capacity for several years. The remaining officers retained were Bob Clyde, president; Steve Rude, vice president; and Marcia Skinner Link, secretary. Mary Ruth Anderson Ingram will maintain the alumni addresses for the association. It was agreed to hold next year's banquet at the same location on May 15, 2010.
Bill Moon, class of 1944, of Rochester, offered the benediction. The meeting closed with the singing of 'God Be With You 'Til We Meet Again'.
